John Gavin Ballad Writing Competition

March 1, 2022 by FAA Board

The Fremantle Volunteer Heritage Guides Association in association with the Fremantle Round House has announced the John Gavin Writing Competition 2022, with two open categories – The John Gavin Ballad Competition and The John Gavin Flash Fiction Competition.

On 6 April 1844, Easter Saturday, John Gavin was hanged in front of the Fremantle Round House and buried without ceremony in the sand dunes nearby.  Thought to be around fifteen years old, and having been sent out to the Colony to be apprenticed labour from the Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight, John was convicted of murdering his employer’s son, George Pollard, on a farm in North Dandalup.

John Gavin’s tale is one of hardship and tragedy and an uncomfortable reminder of our not-so-distant past.

Competition closes 12 March 2022

February 12, 2022 by FAA Board

The Pipi Pickers – Photo: Listening Through The Lens

Have your say about what the Federal Government should do to help our Australian music industry.

Over the past few months a group of professional representatives from across the Australian music industry has been working to develop policy recommendations to put to the political parties ahead of the federal election.

Whether you are an artist, sole trader or music business, OpenMIC needs your views on these policy ideas as they work to get government to partner with the music industry on a long-term vision for the sector.

Your responses will help shape the final version of the document which will be released publicly in time for the election.

Have your say before the survey closes on 18 of Feb 2022.
