Songcraft – Conversations About Songwriting

APRA AMCOS is hosting a free session on the art of songwriting at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. 

Held at The Pub (99 Gunnedah Road, Tamworth) on Thursday 21 April at 11:30am, there will be a conversation about the art of songwriting with Fanny Lumsden, Caitlin Harnett and Ashleigh Dallas, moderated by Loren Young.

Weathered Debut Album

Upile Mkoka’s (aka Weathered) debut album Until This Love is All That Remains is the product of ten years of writing, performing, refining and crafting.

Co-produced by Mkoka and Mark Myers (ex The Middle East), this body of work contains a myriad of instrumentation – driving drums, late-night sounds and forest-like folk anthems.

FAI Spotlight Showcase Week – 2022 Conference

The Accidentals – Photo: Listening Through The Lens

Folk Alliance International has announced Spotlight Showcase Week, a virtual presentation of talented acts from around the world happening in 1-2 hour pre-recorded showcases as part of the virtual programming for its upcoming conference!

FAI will be presenting 52 acts total from a wide range of genres, including Aoife O’Donovan, John McCutcheon, The Accidentals, Peggy Seeger and more. Folks can tune in to the shows live May 10-12 from 7-9pm USCT (10 – 12 am AEST).

Spotlight Showcases are open to all conference registrants, or public tickets are available.

Keynote Presenters – FAI Conference 2022

FAA at the National Folk Festival 2022 – Canberra Easter

Folk Alliance Australia Board members will be at the National Folk Festival in Canberra this Easter (14 to 18 April). 

Were hoping to catch up with many of our members and supporters.

Annual General Meeting

FAA will hold our Annual General Meeting on the Sunday at 5.00pm at The Terrace.

We will have Zoom Linkage if you wish to join us online.

Apart from Reports and Updates we will welcome new Committee members and outline our plans for the 2022 Australian Folk Music Awards.

Forum – Imaging The Future Of Folk

We will also be presenting a fantastic Folk Forum titled Imaging the Future of Folk with a range of well-known folk artists and activists presenting their visions for Australian Folk. This will be held on Saturday 1.20pm – Old Troc Stage.

Gulgong Folk Festival 2022

The Gulgong Folk Festival returns in 2022 – 16 April.

The event will be held at The Price of Wales Opera House in Gulgong, NSW and the headliners are Day of Embers, The Honey Sippers, Sally Andrews, Linda Mizzi, Stringline, Franz James and Daryl James.

Folk Alliance International Exhibition Hall Booth

Folk Alliance International will be holding its annual Conference in Kansas City Missouri and on-line May 18-22, 2022.

The Conference features a bustling exhibit hall with organizations doing business in the folk industry.  The virtual stall option is available and booths must be confirmed by March 31, 2022.

Concertinas Go Bush – A Video Celebration

Calling all English and Anglo concertina players, all levels, all players!!

The concertina convergence is organising another series of video submissions, seeking interpretations and performances of collected bush tunes – polkas, waltzes, reels, mazurkas, schottische and barn dance.  Each video should have an introduction with the tunes having a twelve minute maximum.
